AAFSW’s “Twice Exceptional” Merit Scholarship was specifically designed to reward academic excellence among Foreign Service students with disabilities. Since 2018, AAFSW has received many nominations and has granted two Twice Exceptional merit scholarships each year to eligible high school seniors, gap year students, and college freshmen and sophomores with a current Individualized Education Program (IEP) or equivalent program such as a 504. The scholarship was created in response to growing concerns among Foreign Service Families about the Special Needs Education Allowance (SNEA) and other benefits for students with disabilities in the Foreign Service community.
