Education and Counseling Center

Up to the 1970s, no central counseling center existed where parents and children worldwide could turn for continuity of concern, support, assessment and planning, regardless of their post of assignment.  The AAFSW board voted to provide an initial grant of $8000, and AAFSW joined with AFSA to establish the Foreign Service Education and Counseling Center (FSECC). The center provided help selecting the right school for children of families returning home, information on testing services, and counseling for children or families facing re-entry problems or emotional issues. This service continued until it became part of the FLO in 1979.
